Michael Jackson Memorial Service

I bet most of you missed the memorial service for our undisputed King of Pop, Michael Jackson. It was at Staples Center last night (7.7.2009). I searched Youtube for the videos of the memorial service. And I decided to share it all with you here. The videos are in order. The videos are not in HD, and kind of blurry. But it's the only full list of videos of the memorial.

Part 1 - The Jackson Brothers carried Michael Jackson's gold-plated casket into the public memorial service. The siblings also donned sparkly gloves in honor of their brother, as well as Versace attire. The Italian designer was one of MJ's favorites. Pastor Lucious Smith speaks, calling Michael "a brother, a son, a father and a friend."



Part 2 - Mariah Carey delivers a performance with Trey Lorenzof "I'll Be There," a 1970 #1 hit for the Jackson 5, and that Carey remade into a hit of her own in 1992. She could barely hold back her tears. Queen Latifah talked of idolizing Michael Jackson while growing up and paid tribute to MJ by reading a Maya Angelou poem called "We Had Him."



Part 3 - Lionel Richie tribute "Jesus In Love" for Michael Jackson. Berry Gordy, who discovered the Jackson Five and founder of Motown, delivered a classy yet sweet humored speech on Michael Jackson's early years in music world and how MJ inspired him. Berry Gordy said that MJ not only raised the bar, he broke it. MJ was "like a son" to him, and after acknowledging his "sad times" and "questionable decisions," called him the greatest entertainer who ever lived.



Part 4 - "When he did his iconic moon walk, I was shocked. It was magic. Michael Jackson went into orbit and never came down. Thought it ended way too soon, Michael's life was beautiful. Sure, there were some sad times and maybe some questionable decisions on his part, but Michael Jackson accomplished everything he dreamed of. I think he is simply the greatest entertainer that ever lived," Berry Gordy continues.. A Michael Jackson video tribute plays, featuring clips from his performances, fan reactions, news stories and music videos.



Part 5 - Stevie Wonder performed "Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer" in Michael Jackson's honour and said that MJ will be remembered for his musical greatness. He personalizes the lyrics, adding in Michael's name: "I never dreamed you'd leave in summer, but now I find my love has gone away. Michael, why didn't you stay?"



Part 6 - Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson share the stage to tell their stories about how Michael Jackson had been the rock behind their success. Kobe begins, saying, "Michael was also a true humanitarian... he always cared deeply for those in need. Michael also made the Guinness Book of World Records for most charities supported by a pop star". Magic added levity and a great story about eating a bucket of KFC with MJ and thanks MJ for opening up doors for African-Americans, and tearfully describes meeting the music legend as the best moment of his life. Jennifer Hudson delivered an amazing cover performance of "Will You Be There", which was written entirely by MJ himself.



Part 7 - Reverend Al Sharpton, a longtime family friend of the Jackson, gave a remarkable speech and credits Michael Jackson with everything from elevating the stature of African-American entertainers to getting Barack Obama elected president. Sharpton also comforted MJ's three children by saying "Nothing strange about your daddy; what strange is the things he has to deal with". John Mayer performed his tribute for MJ with a beautiful instrumental version of "Human Nature" on his guitar.



Part 8 - Brooke Shield, who met Michael at the tender of 13, shared her a heartfelt memories about how MJ help her get through the pressure of being under the limelight in such a young age and their mischievous friendship. Shield said "MJ's laugh was the sweetest and purest laugh of anyone I have ever known" and MJ always reminded her of "The Little Prince". Shield also shared to the world a line from MJ's favorite song, "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin, that said "Smile though your heart is aching".



Part 9 - An extremely teary-eyed Jermaine Jackson, Michael's brother, sang MJ's favorite song, "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin. Martin Luther King III and his sister Bernice King take the stage. Martin Luther remembers how his father had always said that people should be the best of what they are. "Michael Jackson was truly the best of what he was," Martin Luther King III said.



Part 10 - The continuation of Bernice King's speech. Bernice added "May we all be inspired to go and let our light shine". Texan congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee speaked, and immediately references Michael's child molestation charges: "We understand laws, and we know that people are innocent until proven otherwise. That is what the Constitution stands for". The member of the U.S. House of Representatives, announces she is introducing a measure honoring MJ's humanitarianism.



Part 11 - Usher took the stage and Michael Jackson's song, "Gone Too Soon." Eerily appropriate selection as some of the lyrics include, "Like a comet, blazing 'cross the evening sky, gone too soon. Like a rainbow, fading in the twinkling of an eye, gone too soon." Usher breaks down as he tries to sing the last line of the song. Then, another video piece which features the Jackson 5 singing "Who's Loving You."



Part 12 - Smokey Robinson speaks about meeting the Jackson 5 and when they recorded his song, "Who's Loving You." He says he first thought to himself, "This boy cannot possibly be 10 years old... I quickly went over to him because I wanted to see his birth certificate. I could not believe that someone that young could have that much feeling and soul". Afterward, a budding child prodigy in his own right, Shaheen Jafargholi from Britain Got Talent, brings the house down with "Who's Lovin' You."



Part 13 - Shaheen Jafargholi thanks Michael Jackson for the opportunity and advices given. According to Kenny Ortega, who worked with Michael on his tours, MJ had seen the 12-year-old on YouTube and was so impressed that he invited him to perform during his comeback concerts in London. Kenny Ortega presents a tribute to the fallen star. Some of the performers from Michael Jackson's concert, along with the stars from the memorial service and family members, sing "We are the World," which was one of MJ's favorite parts of his comeback concert. Then, Fans and memorial service participants, along with Michael's kids who are on stage, sing "Heal the World."



Part 14 - Jermaine Jackson thanks everyone for attending the memorial service. Marlon Jackson, another one of Michael's brothers, is so emotional that it's difficult for him to speak at first. He then says he doesn't understand "why the lord has taken our brother to return home after such a short visit on Earth." Then, in reference to all the crazy attention that Michael has received, he says, "Maybe now, Michael, they will leave you alone." Marlon ends his speech with, "I would like you to give our brother, my twin brother, Brandon, a hug for me." In the most unexpected and touching moment of the event, MJ's daughter Paris Jackson speaked and said "I would like you to give our brother, my twin brother, Brandon, a hug for me.".



Part 15 - Pastor Lucious Smith closed the memorial with a prayer.
