UiTM Sabah finally installed the WiFi in our clusters. (Cluster = Hostel) These few days, there's been electricians working during the day, installing the system. Of course, many are overjoyed with the news. Now, we don't have to go to the cafes, or for Cluster A occupants, sit on the stairs of block A4 to be connected to the internet.
I thought it would have not make any difference to me. Why? Because I have my own way to stay connected to the internet. I bought a modem and applied for Celcom Broadband. I even sacrifice my own allowance to pay my monthly fee. I rather use my own allowance than asking my parents for it. It's a lot easier to get it myself. No nagging & lectures. Or being reminded how much they've spend on me. I didn't even bother to tell them when I applied for it. After all, I'm over my legal age now. I don't need their signature on anything anymore.
When they found out about it, (I didn't tell them doesn't mean I'd lie to them) Mum was a bit startled. I'm not a mindreader, so I couldn't possibly know what she was thinking then. But at least she didn't give me a hard time over it. All she ask is how am I paying for it. And I told her the truth, from my own pocket. I guess that might be the reason she's not throwing a fit over it. All she could say next was "Marahla abang ZZ ko nie, ko baru ada laptop, trus ada ni." I would have love to reply her, "I'm paying this on my own, if he wants one, he can afford to have one himself too." But I didn't, of course. If you can't say something nice, it's better not to say anything at all. Especially to your own mother.
Anyway, I was wrong that the WiFi system won't affect my connectivity. Since my Celcom Broadband is wireless as well, now I have to compete with the WiFi system to get better connection. More and more students taking advantage of the WiFi system to online from their own rooms. More students to compete with. Having my own line does have it advantage. My connection is better than theirs. Slower now, than before. But still better. That's the brightside. Still, that couldn't ease the fact that I'm paying with my own allowance while they're using it for free. And I'm using the advance plan instead of the basic.
If it wasn't because there's no longer Streamyx in my parents' house, I might seriously consider to end my subscription for this Celcom Broadband. I couldn't even upload pictures from here anymore, the connectivity is too slow. I've doodled a lot of things today in class. And I was eager to share them with you, but I couldn't upload it online. I've even took a nap, waited for the peak hour to end and tried again. But it didn't work. Of course it wouldn't. Internet usage peak hour in clusters starts from 8pm - 1am. Nobody sleeps early in campus, not with so much assignments on our shoulders. Too many things to search on the net. And staying connected to the internet enables us to share our information and chat with one another without the need to go to one room to another.
I guess I'll try again next time. You really have to see my doodle!
