ADHD

The study week is coming to the end. The final exams will replace it sooner than expected. My first paper is next Wednesday. What paper will it be? CTU 101 - Fundamentals of Islam. Sound easy enough, right? You're probably right. But that doesn't mean I should just put the books aside, and lie on the couch with V on my lap. Which is the exact thing I'm doing right this moment.

I planned to study CTU this week. Everyday CTU, well, at least I start with CTU until I completely understood the concepts before I move on with another subject. I really thought it'll just take me two days before I can start studying PAD 120 - Introduction to Political Science. But I was dead wrong. I think I'm suffering from ADHD.

What is ADHD? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. From the name, you'll probably guess what it is already. What are the symptoms of ADHD? Well, impulsiveness, hyperactivity & inattention.

Impulsiveness: acting before thinking of consequences, jumping from one activity to another, disorganization, tendency to interrupt other people's conversation. I'm partially impulsive. Of course, I never act before thinking. I'm constantly thinking, how could that ever happen? However, I do jump from one activity to another. One minute I'm doing this, the next I'm doing something else. Or more like one minute I decide to do this, the next I'm doing something else. You'd be able to see me behind the wheels, wanting to go to this place, but instead, I drove to another place. In addition, I do always interrupt people's conversation. Not elderly's conversation, because that would be rude. I'm raised with the phrase "jangan menyampuk orang tua bercakap", but my parents never say anything about my peers' conversation. Ha-ha.

Hyperactivity: restlessness, often characterized by inability to sit still, fidgeting, squirminess, climbing on things, restless sleep . Seriously, need I elaborate on this? You should have known me better. I scored every elaboration of hyperactivity. Though, Intan is more, much more, hyperactive than I am.

Inattentive: easily distracted, day-dreaming, not finishing work, difficulty listening. Whoa! I'm everything it says. I do have difficulties listening, my parents always scold me when I was younger for always getting what they say wrong. In fact, they still do. I daydream a lot. I daydream so much, that I'm daydreaming about my own empire. The normal fairy tales dreams are getting old, so I moved on to something bigger. I doodle in class all the time, in fact, you can see some of the doodles here in my blog. I rarely finish my homework in school. Easily distracted too! Especially when it comes to study, I would just read a few pages, before my body starts to do something else. I would move around, saying "hmm, maybe I need to make a drink". Few minutes later, "hmm, I need some music". Few more minutes, "hmm, wonder what's on TV?".

Seriously, I really do think I have ADHD. Maybe its situational. My case always come whenever I need to study. These few days, I've been trying to study CTU 101, but everything around me was seducing me to do something else. My phone keep buzzing. The car wants me to drive him around. Giving me excuses. You know, just like in the movie "The Confession of a Shopaholic", where all the clothes are talking Becky into buying them. Well, in my case, they are talking me out of studying.

If I tell mum that I suspect myself to have ADHD, she'll just scold me, tell me off for giving her to most amazing, (and original, I must say) for not studying. She'll just going to tell me to study anyway.

Even if I don't have ADHD, I'm positively, 100% sure that Intan does. Maybe I'll ask her to see a doctor about it.
